Women's National 7's

3-31-2006 - WNT OUTSCORES HK POOL 155-0 HONG KONG- The USA Rugby Women’s Sevens National Team dominated pool play here at the Women’s Hong Kong Sevens at the Hong Kong Football Club in Happy Valley Friday, blanking Thailand (50-0), Guam (55-0) and Singapore (50-0).

The Women Eagles will play Australia Saturday in the Plate/Cup semifinals for the right to advance to the Cup Final against either New Zealand or Kazakhstan, and play in Hong Kong Stadium, as part of the sold-out Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens.

A balmy, tropical Wednesday evening here on the East African equator saw the second clash of cultures at Kyadondo Rugby Club grounds, when the touring women of American Brown University B side took on their similarly developmental adversaries, Kyadondo B in their second engagement of the tour. The home side won 12-5. Both sides included relative novices to the sport and, as was to be expected, the pace and skill were not quite up to the main event the previous Saturday when, against the predictions a mighty Kyadondo A effort saw them overcome the American's full-strength A side by a 32-8 margin.

This should not detract from what was still, for the crowd of a few hundred supporters who had skived off work early to come and watch, an entertaining 80 minutes of full contact, women's rugby. The rest of the article can be found here.

Oklahoma Women's Rugby - The Roses


Oklahoma Women's Rugby has just celebrated their 30th anniversary as a rugby community in Norman, Oklahoma. The event was celebrated by having the largest Alumni gathering yet.

Also the women had their FIRST alumni match against their own old girls. It was great to find out that the front row had all played in the '80s and most of us were born during that time! Of course experience and smart play always win over youth...

Oklahoma Rugby is VERY excited to be hosting the Western Collegiate Championships on their home pitch starting April 7, 2006 and wrapping up the championships games on April 9, 2006. This tournament will have 24 colleges competing for the top spot in the West. The women's teams are seeded as:

#1 = ER1 - Air Force Academy
#2 = ER2 - University of Colorado
#3 = TX1 - Texas A&M
#4 = RG1 - University of New Mexico
#5 = GP1 - Wayne State
#6 = ER3 - University of Northern Colorado
#7 = Oklahoma University
#8 = Truman State

Oklahoma will play the University of Colorado at 8:30am. Come out and support us!

St Louis Sabres


This is a great idea. I'm coordinating Summer 7s for the St Louis Sabres. We have a tournament in St Louis on 7/29. I will also send you a list of the tournaments we plan to attend (once that is finalized) - so that others in the West will know in case they are interested in bringing a team to the same tournaments or if they want to come out to pickup with us.

A discussion point: Why isn't there a 7s national championship for women?

About Us

This blog came about because I wanted to contribute to the sport that has given me so much. I started out reading as much on rugby as I could on Goffon Rugby, Planet Rugby and a few other blogs. I was always disappointed that there was very little to read about Women's Rugby. So I began this blog on March 31, 2006 and haven't stopped blogging since. I love the friends, networking and adventures I have been on while doing it, and look forward to the next adventure on or off the pitch!

The us in the About Us is pretty simple...the blog has two main contributors currently (we are always looking for more, email me!). Wendy Young, editor and creator of Your Scrumhalf Connection and my partner, The Girl. The Girl is the constant inspiration and challenger of what this blog could be and will become. For more on the The Girl and who she is....read below!

As for me personally, I currently play scrumhalf for the Austin Valkyries in Austin, TX. I started playing rugby at the University of Oklahoma in 2001. I love everything about rugby and wanted to write about it...so this is my blog about rugby and some small parts of my life. I was recently selected for the USA Women's National Team pool and I was also recently certified as a rugby referee in the Texas Rugby Union.

Note: The blog originally began as West Rugby Blog (http://westrugby.blogspot.com), but has since evolved to Your Scrumhalf Connection (http://scrumhalfconnection.com) which focuses on women's rugby in the USA.

About "The Girl"

The Girl's story...I started playing rugby in college at Texas A&M University (whoop!!!). For those of you who don't know our story, Wendy and I were mortal enemies in college!! Both captains and officers of our rival clubs... it was a sight when we played against each other.

To make a long story short... call it fate, a full moon, opposites attract, what have you... we both moved to Austin and soon after became a duo on and off the field.

Wendy started this blog in May 2006 and I've been her silent partner working behind the scenes collecting stories, scores, pictures and videos. I'm a bit private and therefore have the title "The Girl". Its kinda my alter ego :)

I hope you enjoy what we produce... feel free to contact me as well!
